MURIC Urges President Tinubu to Guarantee Safety of Corps Members

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has urged the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu to address the current problem of insecurity confronting the National Youth Service Corps, or suspend the scheme.

The call was a reaction to the abduction of some prospective corps members, who were recently released by their abductors.

MURIC gave the advice on Friday in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Prof. Isiaq Akintola, charging the present administration in the country to discharge all the prospective NYSC members, who were kidnapped, stressing that the protection of corps members was the major responsibility of the government.

Prof. Akintola maintained that the scheme should be suspended until the Federal Government can guarantee adequate security of the corps members across the country.

“We cannot but conclude that the scheme’s greatest challenge is insecurity. We are of the opinion that our young ones do not deserve this punishment. Rather, the Federal Government has the responsibility, in loco parentis, to ensure their protection.

“However, in view of the apparent inability to do this, at least presently, we demand the suspension of the NYSC scheme until the Federal Government is able to take full control of the security situation in the country,” Akintola said.
