The Onilua of Ilualand in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, Oba Ashiru Olalere, has lamented the deplorable state of Okeho–Ilua–Awaye road, describing the situation as a major setback for economic growth of the area.
Oba Ashiru Olalere, who stated this on Saturday, while personally participating in a community-led effort to patch failed portions of the 25-kilometre road, in company of the community youths, appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently see to the issue.
The monarch said the road, which remained neglected over the years, has significantly hindered easy movement of vehicles and disrupted commercial activities across the Ilualand and neighbouring communities.
According to Oba Olalere, the road was once a vital transport corridor linking several towns in the Oke-Ogun axis, including Kishi, Igboho, Saki, Ago-Are and Otu.

He noted that the road, which used to be the preferred choice of commercial drivers in the past, for its convenience, thereby boosting trade and economic activities within the region, is now the shadow of itself because of neglect by successive governments.
The traditional ruler expressed concern that the deteriorating condition of the road has discouraged motorists particularly commercial operators from plying it, and caused hardship for residents, whose livelihoods depend on trade and transportation.
The traditional ruler however urged Governor Makinde to show compassion and expedite action toward reconstructing the road, stressing that its rehabilitation would restore people’s confidence in government and bring about economic development of the area.
Oba Olalere also called on lawmakers representing Kajola and Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituencies, Musbau Azeez and Dele Adeola, to prioritise the issue and lend their voices in advocating for urgent government intervention.

While making his appeal, the monarch expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, and the Executive Chairman of Kajola Local Government, Akeem Mustapha, for their roles in his ascension to the throne of his forefathers.
Oba Olalere commended the youths, traditional council chiefs and residents of Ilualand for their continued support and collective efforts toward community development, praying for sustained unity and progress.
