Governor Makinde Announces ₦10,000 Transport Allowance For Oyo Civil Servants

Oyo state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde on Monday announced a ₦10,000 monthly transportation allowance for civil servants across the state, scheduled to run for an initial period of three months, beginning from April, 2026.

Governor Makinde disclosed this while overseeing the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme, in collaboration with First City Monument Bank and Mastercard, held at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub, Oyo.

The governor said the initiative was part of the state government’s strategic response to current economic challenges, especially the rising cost of transportation, which has been affecting workers’ welfare and productivity.

He noted that the support was aimed at easing the financial strain on civil servants, in order to maintain efficient service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies.

“I am happy to announce that all workers in Oyo state and the local government, starting from April, at least for the first three months, in the first instance, maybe it will be extended, will be given #10,000 additional as petrol/transportation support. Everybody, all workers, it’s a flat rate”, the governor declared.

The governor explained further that the intervention was a relief for the challenges faced by workers on a daily basis.

“This intervention reflects our understanding of the challenges our workers face.

With the steady increase in transportation costs, it is our responsibility as a government to provide relief,” He stated.

Makinde further noted that the measure is in line with his administration’s commitment to worker-friendly policies and sustainable economic relief initiatives under the SAfER framework.

The event also featured the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries of the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project and other targeted support programmes designed to boost economic activities and improve livelihoods across the state.
