Workers employed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration have stated that they will on Monday, January 19, 2026, commence an industrial action to press home their demands, vowing to shut down government offices across Abuja and its area councils.
The decision, taken by the Joint Union Action Congress, as contained in a statement jointly signed by JUAC President, Rifkatu Iortyer and Secretary Abdullahi Saleh.
The statement directed workers at all cadres within the FCT to withdraw their services, following what it described as the authorities’ failure to address long-standing labour and welfare demands.
The Public Relations Officer of the unions, Holina Adejoh, confirmed the development to newsmen on Friday, stating that the decision followed the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to FCTA management, which was met with silence, despite a series of meetings held during the period.

Copies of the notice according to him, were also forwarded to the Minister of State for the FCT, the Chief of Staff, the Head of Service, and the Director of Security Services.
The unions said unresolved issues include outstanding promotion arrears, stalled promotions, and the continued extension of service for retired directors and permanent secretaries, alleging that the administration had failed to remit workers’ pension contributions and National Housing Fund deductions.
JUAC further raised concerns about the outcome of the 2024 promotion examinations, describing the exercise as a failure that reportedly affected most of its candidates.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain a reaction from FCT authorities were unsuccessful, as the media aide to the FCT Head of Office, Tony Odey, did not respond to calls.
