As political figures across the length and breadth of Oyo state continue to express their plans to run for the governorship ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Ibrahim Akintayo, has formally joined the race, declaring his intention to also vie for the exalted office in the Pacesetter state.
Hon. Akintayo made his ambition known on Thursday when he appeared before the Oyo State PDP Governorship Screening Committee. Following the screening process, he proceeded to make an official declaration before party loyalists and supporters at a gathering held within the council area.
In a statement conveying his intention, the council chairman said he was stepping forward with “deep humility and a strong sense of responsibility” to seek the party’s ticket for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
The Public Relations Officer of the Association of Local Governments in Oyo State, ALGOS, noted that his tenure as local government Chairman has been defined by dedication, integrity, and a clear focus on grassroots development.
He maintained that his administration has delivered impactful projects and implemented people-oriented policies that have improved the welfare of residents.
Akintayo further stated that his experience in public administration, leadership, and governance has equipped him with the capacity to lead the state effectively, adding that his record of prudent and resource management as well as inclusive governance, has earned him widespread support at the grassroots level.
Expressing confidence in his ambition, the PDP chieftain said his connection with the people and his performance in office position him as a strong contender capable of leading the party to victory in the 2027 election.
He also pledged to sustain and expand the developmental strides of Governor Seyi Makinde, noting that the current administration has laid a solid foundation in infrastructure, economic growth, and good governance.
“I am committed to building on the achievements of this administration and ensuring continuity of purposeful leadership that will take Oyo State to greater heights,” he said.
