UK Councillor, Adeniran Visits Alma Mater in Ibadan, Charges Students On Academic Excellence

36years after completing her secondary education, the Deputy Lady Mayoress of Portsmouth, the United Kingdom, Councillor Yinka Adeniran, returned to her Alma mater, Elekuro High School, Oke Ogbere, Ibadan, Oyo state capital, where she admonished students to be more dedicated to their studies, in order to achieve greatness in life.

Speaking with InfoCorridor.ng, Councillor Adeniran described the visit as a divine direction from God, adding that stepping through the school gates brought back the memories of the past, even though she left with mixed feelings, as a result of the dilapidated state of the institution.

The Ibadan born UK lawmaker, who commended the efforts of governments at all levels to improve educational standard in the country, noted that their best was not enough to change the narrative, calling on parents, alumni associations and other stakeholders to support the needed reforms in the education sector.

“Yes, the government is trying, but their best still isn’t enough. However, we must remember — building a better future for our children isn’t the government’s responsibility alone. Parents, alumni, and well-meaning individuals all have a part to play. Together, we can make a difference.

I spent some time with the students, encouraging them to stay focused and never allow their present circumstances to limit their dreams. I reminded them that where they are today does not define who they can become tomorrow”. She stated.

The first female African Labour councillor for the Charles Dickens ward, however expressed gratitude to the school Principal, Mrs. Yetunde Alabi and the management staff for the warm reception in her honour, praying that the students succeed in their academic pursuits.
