The Chairman, Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority, Major Adesagba Adekoya (retd), has directed traders, artisans and other vendors occupying pedestrian walkways and roadside spaces to leave the areas immediately or face penalties.
Adekoya, while giving the warning in Ibadan, the state capital on Friday, identified Mokola, Samonda, the University of Ibadan area, among others, as locations where illegal trading is rampant.
He stated that it is illegal for traders to be displaying their goods on walkways, adding that the act usually creates traffic bottlenecks, accidents, and inconvenience for shoppers.
The OYRTMA Boss charged the traders to relocate businesses to designated market spaces, ahead of the festive period, warning that non-compliance would result in fines and court appearances.
He however commended the state government for supporting the agency’s efforts to improve road safety and public order, reiterating commitment to upgrading infrastructure and ensuring safe movement throughout the state.
