Osun Governor, Adeleke Dumps PDP Over Leadership Crisis

In less than 24 hours before the governorship primary of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned his membership of the Party, effective from November 4, 2025.

A statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed confirmed the development, adding that the letter of resignation, which surfaced on Monday evening, has been communicated to the PDP chairman in Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area of the State.

Governor Adeleke, attributed his decision to what he described as a lingering crisis within the national leadership of the party, stating that the situation had compelled him to withdraw his membership with immediate effect.

‎“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect,” the governor wrote in the letter personally signed by him.

He also expressed appreciation to the party for the platform it provided throughout his political journey, including his election as Senator representing Osun West and his subsequent emergence as Governor of Osun State.

The resignation marks a significant political development in Osun’s evolving political landscape, raising questions about the Governor’s next political steps as his tenure continues.

Recall that the party had earlier confirmed that its Osun State governorship primary election will hold on Tuesday, December 2nd (today), following the success of its ad-hoc and national delegate congresses, held on November 24 and 29, 2025.

It however urged all aspirants to strictly adhere to party rules, stressing the need for a peaceful and orderly exercise.
