NLC Insists On December 17 Nationwide Protest Against Insecurity

The Nigeria Labour Congress, has vowed not to rescind its decision to embark on the planned nationwide protest scheduled for December 17, against the wave of insecurity battling the country.

National President of the union, Joe Ajaero, stated this shortly after paying a courtesy visit to the Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, Inuwa Yahaya in Gombe.

Ajaero explained that the protest would demand decisive government action against insecurity, stressing that the situation now affects every Nigerian, regardless of status and occupation.

The union leader added that the menace is not only damaging the economy but also weakening the nation’s ability to attract local and foreign investors.

The NLC had on December 8 announced plans to hold a nationwide protest over the incessant kidnapping and banditry in the country.

“We condemn in totality the kidnapping and killing of school staffer during the Kebbi school attack and the withdrawal of security personnel from the affected school prior to the attack.

“The surge in attacks on schools is alarming. We call on the Federal Government to secure all schools, particularly those in remote and vulnerable areas,” he said.
