Alaafin To Install Tinubu’s Son as ‘Okanlomo Of Yorubaland’, Yari As Obaloyin

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to install, the son of President Bola Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, as the “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” on December 21st, 2025.

Oba Owoade on the same occasion will also install the former Governor of Zamfara state and current Senator representing Zamfara West, as the “Obaloyin of Yorubaland”.

The chieftaincy installation of the duo was contained in a flier shared on social media platforms on Wednesday.

According to the flier, the monarch and his Olori, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, invited the general public to the said installation and implored them to save the date of the event scheduled to hold on December 21st, 2025.

Confirming the development on Wednesday in a telephone conversation with the PUNCH, Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaiye, stated that the event will hold as planned, adding that the press statement would be made available to journalists any time soon.

“Yes, it is true. The Alaafin of Oyo wants to install Seyi Tinubu as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland.

“The press statement on the said event would be made available today or anytime soon,” he said.

The event was coming a few months after the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II had bestowed the title of “Okanlomo of Oodua” on the Ibadan-born philanthropist and the Bada Olubadan-designate, Engr. Dotun Sanusi.

This announcement, which sparked supremacy controversy between the two highly revered Yoruba monarchs, was quelled by the concerned stakeholders before it escalated into a serious war.

Okanlomo of Yorubaland” is a prestigious Yoruba title meaning “the one dear to the hearts of all Yoruba people” or “beloved child,” signifying deep affection and importance to the race.

Recall that the Ooni of Ife had recently installed the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu as the Yeye Asiwaju of Oodua, as part of programs to commemorate his 10th anniversary on the Royal throne.
