Agbekoya Deploys Members To Combat Insecurity In Oyo

As part of efforts to confront insecurity in Oyo state, the Agbekoya Farmers Society of Nigeria says it has stationed hundreds of its members in strategic locations across communities and villages in the state, to curb the menace of banditry, kidnapping, and other related crimes.

The wanted suspect was reportedly sighted in the town a few days ago, causing serious tension in parts of the state.

The group in a communique issued by the National Public Relations Officer, Olatunji Bandele, at the end of the meeting with its Oyo State Governor, High Chief Olatunde Bello popularly known as Ashagidigbi, lamented the menace of insecurity in the country, particularly the recent attacks in Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi, and Borno States.

The group maintained that the deployment of its trained personnel to selected flashpoints in the State, was to prevent similar tragedies, adding that the officers will collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to address security related problems in the areas.

It however called on Southwest governors to intensify efforts to ensure adequate security of lives and property in their respective states, stressing that citizens are anxiously looking forward to their reassurances and the calculative strategies to conquer the problem.

“Agbekoya condemns the breakdown of Nigeria’s security architecture, which has exposed our villages, communities, and schools to attacks by suspected bandits and criminal herdsmen. In the last few weeks alone, the country has witnessed disturbing incidents of mass abductions and killings.

“At a time like this, proactive leadership and stronger collaboration between government and communities are crucial. As a grassroots-based farmers’ organisation committed to protecting farmers and farmlands, Agbekoya Farmers Society of Nigeria is ready to partner with security agencies in Oyo State to safeguard rural communities,” the communique added.
