Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has dismissed speculations about a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, saying he remains comfortable in the party despite recent political realignments.
Governor Makinde stated this after meeting with President Bola Tinubu in his Aso Villa, Abuja, where he reacted to reports about the defection of many PDP governors and leaders to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Responding to the question of whether he was also planning a possible migration to the APC, the governor noted that he had no such thoughts in mind, stressing that his loyalty to the PDP remains intact.
“I’m comfortable in the PDP”
“Again, we may have issues in this country where a bipartisan approach is required. It shouldn’t be a situation where only the APC is talking or only the PDP is talking. We must look at what puts our best foot forward in the interest of our nation.” Makinde stated.

He maintained that cooperation across party lines becomes necessary, when national interest is at stake.
“At that point, you need everybody on board,” he noted.
Governor Makinde’s remarks suggest a willingness to engage in bipartisan engagement at the national level, while firmly emphasizing his political base within the PDP and rejecting any immediate move to the APC.
Reports earlier explained that governor Makinde met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Thursday, arriving shortly after his Plateau State counterpart, Caleb Mutfwang, who recently left PDP for the APC, had arrived at the State House.
