Onido Stool: Olubadan Wades Into Crisis, Inauguates Investigative Panel

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa 1, has waded into the Onido stool crisis, where three different people are reportedly claiming authority over Ido township traditional leadership.

Oba Ladoja, who implored the parties concerned in  the dispute to maintain peace, said the panel members to investigate the causes of the 19-year old crisis would be inaugurated on Monday, January 12 at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan.

A release signed by monarch’s Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, explained that the committee would start sitting immediately after inauguration, with a clear mandate to look into the remote and immediate causes of the aged-long crisis.

The statement added that the panel is also expected to make far -reaching recommendations that would give the Olubadan and his council the clear understanding of the issue and possible ways of resolving it.

It will be recalled that some concerned residents of Ido town in Ido Local Government had earlier  raised fresh concerns over the Onido of Ido dispute, calling on the Oyo state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde and Oba Ladoja, to urgently intervene in the matter.

According to them, Ido has been in a delicate situation since 1997″ because we have three different people, claiming to be Onido, while the town has witnessed multiple appointments and counter appointments which have deepened division”.

The three concerned are: Oba Benjamin Ademola Orobiyi, Tajudeen Akinola and Oba Muritala Babalola.

Oloko noted that it is in exercise of his power as the prescribed and consenting authority on all chieftaincy matters in Ibadan that the Olubadan chose to set up the pane to see to the lingering dispute.
