The Presiding judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Emeka Nwite has ordered that the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria is to remain in Kuje prison till January 2, 2026, when his written bail application would be argued by his legal team.
Justice Nwite turned down the oral bail request argued on Tuesday by Malami’s lead counsel, Joseph Daudu, SAN, on the ground that it would amount to an ambush on the side of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, that put Malami on trial.
Justice Nwite also stated that the interest of justice would be met, if the EFCC was allowed to respond to a written bail application, which had already been filed on the anti-graft agency, as required by law.

Reacting via a post on his X handle, former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, said he wished Malami well on his corruption trial, recalling how he was prosecuted by him over what he described as frivolous cases while serving as the nation’s AGF.
He wrote: “Reminded me of how I was appearing in different courts when Malami as AGF was prosecuting me over frivolous cases including taking over one of the police cases against me. Wish him well.”
Malami, his son, Abdulaziz, and another individual were arraigned for a 16-count charge of money laundering and unlawful acquisition and concealment of funds, which they all pleaded not guilty.
