Nigerian Singer, Asake Storms Alma Mater, OAU In Helicopter, Visits Ooni of Ife

Afrobeats star, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, on Monday made a dramatic return to his alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as he arrived on campus in a helicopter, drawing excitement from students and staff.

The award-winning singer was received by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Simeon Bamire, alongside other senior officials, including a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts, Dr Oluwatoyin Ogundeji, where Asake began his creative journey.

At the OAU Amphitheatre, the singer was welcomed by a large crowd of students, whom he later thrilled with an emotional appearance that featured drumming and a traditional Yoruba prostration, drawing loud cheers and applause.

Asake, who studied Performing Arts at the institution, was accompanied by his mother and popular entertainer Yhemolee.

The visit highlighted OAU’s reputation as a hub for creative talent, having produced several notable figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, including fellow Afrobeats star Fireboy DML.

The artiste also visited the palace of the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, where he received royal blessings and commendations for promoting Yoruba culture on the global stage.

Oba Ogunwusi expressed delight at hosting the music star, praising him for consistently projecting Yoruba culture through his music and public identity.

“I am truly happy that Asake has come back home. He is a son of the soil who continues to proudly promote Yoruba culture to the world, and this brings me great joy,” the Ooni said.

The monarch also paid glowing tribute to Asake’s mother, commending her unwavering support, sacrifices, and prayers throughout her son’s journey.


Speaking during the visit, Asake expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Ooni for the warm royal reception and fatherly blessings, describing the moment as deeply humbling and unforgettable.

In a show of reverence and joy, the award-winning artiste broke into songs of praise, extolling the virtues and ancestral greatness of the Ooni and the revered throne of Odùduwà.
