President Tinubu Heads To Plateau Over Killings, Postpones Ogun Trip

President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled his planned trip to Ogun State, as he will be heading to Jos, Plateau State Capital, to commiserate with victims of recent attacks.

The development was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

President Tinubu was earlier scheduled to be in Iperu, Ogun State, on Thursday to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport.

The visit follows renewed violence in Jos, where gunmen launched a deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba community on Sunday, killing dozens and injuring several others.

Following the incident, the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, first imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area to contain the situation and prevent further breakdown of law and order, but later relaxed it when hoodlums allegedly took advantage of the window to attack motorists and passersby in some parts of the city.

Reports explained that the violence also disrupted academic activities, with the University of Jos ordering the evacuation of students from hostels over safety concerns.

The statement added that President Tinubu will proceed from Plateau,
to Lagos, where he will be observing the Good Friday holiday, and later travel to Ogun State on Saturday, to commission the cargo airport and inaugurate two commercial aircraft for export and import operations.
